I’ll be there for you

Even if you don’t want me to

Do you feel ok?

— Yes I am ok, you don’t have to worry.

Should I go to see you?

— No, I don’t want to see anybody.

This could have been the end. But I know you were lying.

Several years have passed since the first time we talked, and even though we have only seen each other a handful of times, I know you as if I had known you since always. Given that, I could understand what you were going through. I know the sensation when you feel lost, when you know your life will never look the way you have always imagined. And even if you are given the moon and the stars on a silver plate, you can’t see their shine.

— I need to catch up with the friends I have lost. — You said.

You were listening to me. Not so long ago we talked about exactly that: friends always remain, even after the strongest of the storms. Because the thing with friends is always unconditional, they don’t need too much: a cup of coffee, a casual beer, a walk along the lake; however that was not working as it should.

The idea was still rolling around my head, I could be there next evening. That time of the year is always crowded and the options were very limited. Still, at least it was possible, distance was not that much of a problem anymore. Some days later, I took off.

Is ok if you don’t want to talk about it, but I want you to know that everything will be alright, that I will always be here for you.

I felt you needed a hug.
